University of Hawai’i men’s basketball senior Noel Coleman comes across a quiet guy who does not care much about bringing attention to himself.
But his production has made big noise on the court early this season, and that earned him Big West Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Coleman, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Leopoldsburg, Belgium, played a key role in victories over Northern Arizona (Nov. 21), Texas-Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 24) and San Diego (Nov. 25).
In the 70-61 home win over Northern Arizona, Coleman scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds. Last Friday in Palm Desert, Calif., Coleman scored 17 points, had seven boards and dished one assist and made one steal to help the Warriors pull away from Texas-Rio Grande Valley, 76-57.
Then on Saturday, Coleman scored a season-high 26 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished one assist and made two steals as UH defeated his former team, San Diego, 77-66, to win the inaugural Acrisure Invitational.
Coleman now leads the team in scoring average at 16.4 points per game, minutes (31.6 per game), field goals made (31) and 3-point goals (10).
The Warriors, who are now 5-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season, remained on the road in Long Beach, Calif. and will play Utah at 4 p.m. (HST) Thursday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
