Don’t let the name — East Texas A&M — fool you.
The Hawai’i men’s basketball team is very familiar with its opponent in a rare late Sunday Night Special home opener in BankOh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be televised live statewide on Spectrum Sports Channel 12 and broadcast live on radio via ESPN Honolulu 1420AM.
Two years ago, East Texas A&M — then known as Texas A&M Commerce — defeated the Warriors at the SSC, 53-51.
This time around the Lions are coming in at 1-1, including a 76-54 loss at New Mexico on Wednesday. East Texas A&M is located in Commerce, approximately 66 miles East of Dallas.
UH is coming off a near-upset at Oregon, falling 60-59 after the Ducks scored the winning basket with 4.2 seconds remaining.
“We missed a lot of open shots, shots that we practice every day and have proven we can hit at a high level, consistently,” Warriors guard Hunter Erickson said. “For whatever reason, it hasn’t quite translated to the games. (But) we just gotta trust the process and be process-driven and get that confidence back, and I think it’ll start coming.”
