The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team will complete its intrastate round-robin schedule Wednesday night when it takes on UH Hilo in nonconference action.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in BankOh Arena at SimpliFi Arena, and the game will be televised live statewide on Spectrum Sports Channel 12 and broadcast live via radio on ESPN Honolulu 1420AM.
The Warriors already have scored victories over O’ahu rivals Chaminade (93-87 exhibition on Oct. 26) and Hawai’i Pacific (88-76 on Nov. 24).
UH is 8-2 overall coming off a 69-59 win over Cal State Fullerton last Saturday. UH Hilo is 0-6 after an 83-79 home loss to Chaminade.
“We have to continue to get better in quick turnarounds,” Warriors coach Eran Ganot said. “We don’t have as much practice time, so we have to be efficient with that. But we’re not skipping steps, we gotta get ready for Wednesday.”
Ganot said there are similarities between facing Big West opponents and the local teams in the Pac West Conference.
Hawai’i has won the past 13 meetings against Hilo, although the Vulcans held a two-point lead with under two minutes remaining in last year’s exhibition game at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
“The (series) history goes out the window, (since) there’s new teams both ways,” Ganot said. “They just had a tough battle with Chaminade, and we’ve seen what they can do.”
